Wayne J. Olan, MD, is board certified in radiology and is currently the Director of minimally invasive neurosurgery at George Washington Hospital. In addition, Dr. Olan serves as an associate professor of neurosurgery and radiology at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. He is also the co-Director of the Endovascular Stroke Program at GW.
He rejoined the Department of Neurosurgery 12 years ago after serving 10 years as the Director of Interventional Neuroradiology at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, and was clinical faculty at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He continues currently as a consulting physician to the National Institutes of Health, The White House and Congressional Medical Staffs, the Department of Defense and Monumental Sports here in DC.
Dr. Olan performs aneurysm coiling, extra-cranial and intra-cranial artery stenting, embolization of AVMs, and embolization of head/neck tumors. In addition, he has interests and extensive experience in the minimally invasive treatment of spinal disorders. He is a pioneer in the development of devices and techniques in the treatment of vertebral compression fractures and a leader in the minimally invasive treatment of degenerative spinal stenosis.
He lectures and instructs physicians all over the globe on minimally invasive spinal and neurovascular techniques, including endovascular stroke therapies, and is involved in the development of many devices in both arenas.
A native of Long Island, Dr. Olan lives in Potomac, MD, and coaches lacrosse at The Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda.

Education
Dr. Olan completed his residency training in radiology in New York and fellowship training at GW in diagnostic neuroradiology and interventional neuroradiology.

Dr. Olan’s clinical and research interests involve the endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disorders, including the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and the endovascular treatment of acute stroke.

Dr. Olan has published extensively on minimally invasive spinal interventions, as well as neurosurgical endovascular treatments and techniques.
